Sculpture Projects / 2018 - 2026
Kinsey begins each new sculpture engaged within the notion of architecture, technology, the natural world, and humanity—together these components give a relational characteristic to each piece. His sculptures are ethereal yet brutal structures that utilize light, material, and opposing forms to create a spatial presence. In his words he states “I like to believe that sculptures, within the public space, become an art of the people. A sculpture's palpability is enhanced by our ability to see, touch, and circumambulate the object. The form is defined by the experience and the experience is defined by the form. Outdoor sculpture is also a vehicle for public interaction on a broad scale, eliminating the boundaries of race, gender, and age due to its uninhibited public exposure within that context. The public space is an autonomous, non-segregated platform where all walks of life can congregate and coexist.”

HOW THESE CAME TO BE
“I have always wanted to venture into working with sculpture but could never find the right arrangement for this enigmatic format. After spending time exploring and documenting the Mojave Desert in 2017, I decided to begin freeform cutting basic wood shapes that I then assembled into miniature prototypes. Within this new context, I was able to pull into this multidimensional space, shapes that are akin to the ethereal formations seen in the deserts seemingly unplanned and charismatic geometry. I realized how these forms could work together in unison as one solitary piece of work. At that point, my first series of sculptures emerged.”
